>>> tragedy: 'They'll give us so much to forget'.
When a tragedy happens, locally or globally, the world momentarily stops. We mourn. We try to make sense of what's happened, need to know how and why it did. But then the world starts spinning again. Time goes by and most people simply move on. We forget.
Google Street View is an objective tool, it displays places without any emotion. To me, Google Street View is a symbol for the current rate at which people digest photography online. We see a photograph and, most of the time, very quickly forget it again. It would be ideal to use Google Street View to show places where a tragedy happened. Because people forget.
In this work, I used the cursor to depict the exact place where a tragedy happened. The selection, order and crops of the photos were inspired by music. The resulting series depicts a musical staff, a song that, for me, is about forgetting.
